Cyclone “Bomba” in Santa Catarina

The “bomb” cyclone has this name because it intensifies rapidly, reaching at least 130 km per hour. The phenomenon hit Santa Catarina at the beginning of July 2020 and left dozens dead, in addition to a trail of destruction. It is estimated that new cyclones may appear in the coming days.

Cyclones form when a low pressure center meets a high pressure center. This means that hot, humid air rises to the atmosphere, while cold, dry air descends to the surface. In other words, the air gets stuck in this back and forth flow and the cyclone ends up forming.

Grasshopper Cloud

A dense cloud of locusts formed in Paraguay in 2020 and headed for Argentina. The locusts are of the species Schistocerca cancellata, from South America.

According to experts, grasshoppers tend to walk in aggregate, mainly during the breeding season to find environments in favorable conditions, with easy feeding, guaranteeing survival.

After this period of swelling, the tendency is for them to enter a phase of isolation. Grasshopper clouds are considered pests because they can wipe out entire vegetation, such as crops, pastures or any area of ​​forest that can be a source of food for animals.

It was one of the phenomena, also considered one of the natural disasters of 2020 that most scared the population, as it caused several producers to lose their crops.

Rain in São Paulo

A city in São Paulo and some paulistas in the interior were hit by torrential rain on February 10, 2020. The extremely short time is normal to cause flooding and chaos in transport, in addition to falls from trees and areas left in landslides.
